Our Story
wyrd – an ancestor of the English ‘weird’, referring to the inexplicable magic of the fates.
Drawing on the ancient power and wisdom of the natural world, Wyrd Books is an independent publisher of beautiful books and practical guides on folklore, ritual, and everyday magic. Moving with the rhythm of the Sun, the Moon, and the turning seasons, we publish our books in step with the Wheel of the Year.
About Wyrd’s Books
Our catalogue runs from collected treasuries of myth and legend to sage words for green-fingered witches and pocket guides for those who live by the Moon. All our titles centre the folklore, history, and seasonal rituals of the British Isles and Ireland. We publish new editions of cornerstone occult and spiritual texts alongside volumes that gather folktales, plant lore, and esoteric writing from old and often forgotten sources. Between them, our shelves cover witchcraft and folk magic, herbal wisdom, astrology, divination, esoteric tradition, the history of sacred sites, and the lore of the Moon and stars.
Our flagship series, the Wyrd Sabbat Guides, follows the Wheel of the Year one festival at a time. The series began with Samhain in 2025 and was completed with Mabon in 2026, giving each of the eight Sabbats a volume of its own.
We revere the natural world and believe in living in step with its many cycles that shape so much of folk custom. The focal point of all our books is to encourage a life led by nature, incorporating folk tradition, and slowing to enjoy each turn of the seasons.
Folklore is inherited and shared, and it binds people together. Everything we publish looks back to where these rites, customs, and festivals came from, because our ancestry is part of who we are. We hope our books spark conversations and keep some room for wonder in everyday life.

About the Wyrd Books Team
We are lucky enough to spend much of our working days in old archives, libraries, and museums, reading widely and following obscure trails in search of treasure from grimoires, historical texts, and occult studies. Each title we publish is chosen, curated, and designed with the care and consideration of people who are enthralled by all the wonders of the world around us.
Fuelled by a deep love of the subject matter and many cups of tea, our small team researches and edits every book in-house. Our creative team designs each cover and interior, as well as all the marketing material, with illustration and typography that honours publishing’s long history of beautiful cover design and letterpress printing.
If you caught a glimpse behind the scenes, you’d most likely find us tucked away in our cosy office at the bottom of the Christmas Steps in the heart of Bristol. We’d be working our way through the biscuit tin, scribbling furiously in notebooks, and packing all our lovely orders. Away from our desks, you’ll find us in our gardens and allotments, out swimming or climbing, digging into a seasonal craft, or settled in a quiet corner with a good book.
We have a lot of fun making these books, and we hope they find a place on your shelves, your altar, or your kitchen table.

Lizzie’s reading recommendation:
Garden Magic
“Once you’ve read this book, the natural world will be transformed for you. Every plant you encounter, whether in your own garden or in the wild, will feel like an old friend. You’ll know its medicinal value, its magical uses, and its story – the folktales and myths that have accompanied it throughout history.”
Rose
Bog Witch and Chief of Operations
Director of the chaos, Rose provides us with the very best of our ideas and sees every project through to perfection. With a background in botanical science and an extensive knowledge of the powerful magic found in the natural world, she’s also the source of all wisdom relating to plant and herbal folklore.
Rose’s reading recommendation:
Gerard’s Herbal
“The original Gerard’s Herbal is a magnificent book, and this is an example of how someone in the 1920s made it accessible, stitching it together in a way that meant we could read it. It was 1000 pages of scrawling old English, and now it’s digestible in lovely seasonal leaves, which represents what we do as a brand. Having seen the original volume, it looks like a magician’s book, and even though the advice is quite practical and its knowledge is of early plants, it has quite interesting applications that are still used today in herb craft and modern medicine.”

Zoe's reading recommendation:
The Herb Growers Grimoire
“This book was incredibly fun and rewarding to work on, I got to work with hundreds of beautiful vintage botanical illustrations and learn so much about the wonderful healing powers and folklore of plants. It felt like I was learning true ancient knowledge passed down generations and across continents, wisdom that has been sadly lost to recent generations.”
