We’re on the threshold of the Spring Equinox and I can feel the soft rumblings of the warming Earth. Nature is gently humming with the first stirrings of Spring as all around us we observe new life blooming, from the blossoming magnolia trees to the beginning of lambing season. It’s safe to say that everyone at Wyrd Books is very excited to great this Sabbat with open hearts.
Known to many as Ostara, the Spring Equinox is a time of perfect harmony, a balance of Winter and Spring as we step into a new season. Named for the Germanic goddess, Eostre, this festival honours her symbols of dawn and fertility, represented by manifestations of new beginnings and rebirth, such as eggs, seeds, hares, and butterflies. Eostre is often depicted as the Maiden in the Maiden-Mother-Crone archetype, embodying the divine feminine. When Christianity spread across Europe, many of the traditions of Pagan festivals were absorbed and adapted. Easter is closely aligned with the Spring Equinox and still dictated by the timing of the Full Moon. The Christian festival echoes the fertility celebrations of Ostara and the sacred symbols of Eostre became part of Easter’s iconography.
The Spring Equinox is a celebration of the divine feminine in all her forms. She is the Maiden, brimming with possibility, growth, and curiosity. She is the Mother, cradling the thawing land and nurturing each seed into bloom. She is the Earth herself, awakening from Winter’s quiet with a song of abundance and renewal.
Now is the time to connect with the divine feminine and honour the Spring Equinox, walking in rhythm with nature’s cycles and celebrating this turn of the Wheel.

Perform a Sunrise of Sunset Ritual
Observe the rhythms of the natural world by waking with the sunrise, or take a moment of stillness at dusk, and pay attention to the creatures stirring in the changing light. Rabbits, fledglings, and butterflies, all sacred to Eostre, remind us of the joy of renewal.
Feast on Seasonal Foods
Celebrate the bounty of the Spring Equinox with fresh, locally grown foods such as leafy greens, honey, eggs, and early Spring vegetables. Bake bread or cakes infused with herbs and decorated with flowers to honour the Earth’s abundance and share your feast with your closest friends or family.
Bathe in the Energy of the Spring Equinox
Whether you’re able to take a cold plunge in the sea or a lake, or if you could simply dip your toes or wash your face in a running stream, water is the perfect symbol of nature’s cleansing power and there’s nothing better to refresh you.
As we approach the Spring Equinox, let us honour the divine feminine within and around us. With each budding plant, breath of fresh air, and blossoming tree we are reminded that we, too, are part of nature’s cycle and Ostara’s renewal.
A blessed Spring Equinox to you all.
